BIBLE READING: 1 Corinthians 15:54-57

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

MESSAGE:

When Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, He went to hell to fight the greatest battle in history. This was a battle between light and darkness and Jesus emerged victorious. His resurrection brought victory over satan and death.

Jesus’ death at Calvary and His resurrection frees every child of God from the fear of death because He defeated the devil, who had the power of death. I lost my fear of death many years ago when my mother told me that she wanted to see how she would be buried. She requested to see the clothes and the coffin she would be buried in. The coffin was bought and a good tailor was asked to take her measurements and sew her clothes. When the tailor brought the clothes to her, she tried them on with much joy, saying that they were the garments for her wedding with the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. Indeed, every child of God who dies leaves this world to be joined with the Bridegroom in heaven.

KEY POINT:

The Bridegroom has the key of life and death in His hands.
