BIBLE READING: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

MESSAGE:

As written in today’s Bible reading, the rapture is the sudden taking away of the dead in Christ along with believers who are alive to meet with the Lord Jesus Christ and spend eternity with Him. Many people, however, feel that the rapture is not real because they have heard of it for so long, and it hasn’t happened yet. Whatever anyone thinks about the reality of the rapture does not matter. It is in your best interest to study and believe only what the word of God says about it. The Bible says that the day will come like a thief in the night, and you must be prepared if you do not want to be left behind.

In the Bible, there were numerous prophecies that seemed impossible but have come to pass. If the Bible has been so accurate, it is wise to believe that it is absolutely right about the rapture. When Noah announced to everyone that a flood was coming to destroy the whole earth, they laughed at him. He started building the ark, and they laughed even more.

Years passed, and no flood came. Just before he went into the ark with his family, the people still drank and rejoiced like every other day. However, a few days later, they all drowned. Today, many people are living recklessly, ignoring the reality of the rapture. Don’t be like them.

REFLECTION:

Read a biography of a great man of God or someone in your field of study this week.

HYMN 62 – On A Hill Far Away Stood An Old Rugged Cross

1 On a hill far away

Stood an old rugged cross,

The emblem of suffering and shame;

And I love that old cross slain.

Where the dearest and best

For a world of lost sinners was

Chorus:

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.

2 O that old rugged cross,

So despised by the world,

Has a wondrouS attraction for me;

For the dear Lamb of God

Left His glory above

To bear it to dark Calvary.

3 In the old rugged cross,

Stained with blood so divine,

A wondrous beauty I see,

For ’twas on that old cross

Jesus suffered and died,

To pardon and sanctify me

4 To the old rugged cross

I will ever be true,

Its shamne and reproach gladly bear;

Then He’ll call me some day

To my home far away,

Where his glory forever l’Il share.
