OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS

THEME: WHO IS YOUR GOD?

MEMORISE: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. Philippians 3:19

BIBLE TEXT: Philippians 3:17-19

[17]Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

[18](For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

[19]Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

MESSAGE: 

Our text for today is about some people who are obsessed with their cravings and have turned them into objects of worship. Clearly. this is a form of idolatry that a genuine child of God must run away from. Anything that you are so obsessed with, or that you want desperately and wouldn't mind sinning against God to get, is a god.

Some young people are battling obesity and diabetes today because they are obsessed with food. They can't control their eating because they have so much to eat, while those who don't have anything to eat resort to begging for food. If you cannot do without food, it's time to go on a fast and ask that the Lord help you tame your appetite so that it won't put you in trouble. Any teenager who cannot fast and pray has made his/her belly a god.

Another obsession you should avoid is sleeping. If you cannot wake to pray at night, then sleep is your god. The best way to deal with any obsession is to declare a fast and stay off them. Then, make plans to start doing the opposite of all the habits you consider not to be good for you.

PRAYER POINT 

Father, help me to do away with everything contending with You in my life.
