TOPIC: Correct In Love [Open Heaven for Teens 22 December 2023]

MEMORISE: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:39b

BIBLE TEXT: John 5:19-20

19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

MESSAGE:

Today, many people are so quick to judge others, especially when a brother/sister in Christ falls into sin, this shouldn’t be. Some would quickly go on social media and outrightly criticize, rather than constructively correct. When it comes to criticizing, borrow a leaf from your Heavenly Father.

In Revelation chapters 2 and 3, God corrected the seven Churches of their errors in a beautiful way. He started by mentioning their areas of strength: in other words, He praised them before rebuking their weaknesses and pointing out areas that He wanted them to improve on. Thereafter, He encouraged them and told them how they could make the desired changes. I believe. that anyone corrected in this manner would know that you truly love him/her.

Love is essential when reproving someone who has done wrong. This will help you to see the good in him/her and not just his/her faults. So, when next you are tempted to criticize someone, be like Christ, correct from a place of love and pray for him/her

KEY POINT

Complaining about or criticising others won’t

change them, but your prayer and a positive attitude can.

HYMN 19: Jesus Loves Me! This I Know

Jesus loves me! this I know,

For the Bible tells me so;

Little ones to Him belong;

They are weak, but He is strong.

CHORUS

Yes, Jesus loves me,

Yes, Jesus loves me,

Yes, Jesus loves me,

The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me He who died,

Heaven’s gate to open wide,

He will wash away my sin,

Let His little child come in.

Jesus loves me, loves me still,

Tho’ I’m very weak and ill

From His shining throne on high

He will watch me where I lie.

Jesus loves me He will stay

Close beside me all the way,

If I love Him when I die

He will take me home on high.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Peter 1-5; 2 Peter 1-3
