TOPIC: Be An Encourager And An Intercessor (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 8 August 2023)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 10, Proverbs 11, 2 Peter 2, 2 Peter 3
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Judges 4:6-16 (KJV)
6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.
8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.
9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.
14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.
16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.
MEMORY VERSE: “And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.” – Judges 4:14

MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:
Two qualities of great leaders that every believer should pray and get are those of an encourager and an intercessor. In the Bible, leaders who had these traits succeeded in discovering and raising other leaders for the kingdom.
Deborah was an inspirer and encourager: She inspired Barak to believe in himself. She saw a leader in Barak. She saw great leadership potential in him that even Barak did not see. She sent for him and encouraged him with God’s word. She was not afraid to train new leaders. She knew that there is really no success for any leader without a successor; hence, she encouraged and brought up a new leader.

Deborah was also an intercessor: When Barak was still not confident of stepping out of his fears, he asked that Deborah should follow him to the battlefront and she obliged. She did not leave her protégé to go face it alone: she stood by him, not only physically but also spiritually. She was not a trained soldier, but in the spirit, she was a warrior. She fought with Barak from the place of prayer. My prayer for every sister reading this is that God will make you another Deborah in this generation, in the name of Jesus.
There are leaders and there are leaders. Many leaders will send their followers to the war front while they themselves would sit at home enjoying themselves. They never led by example like the Pharisees in Matthew 23:4, “For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. Blind leaders of the blind. They never led themselves before leading others”.
Ask yourself, beloved, how much of an encourager are you to others around? Have people been able to discover themselves by coming around you? Are you the type of leader that never wanted others to rise? Are you the type that will always want to talk down on the dreams and visions of others because you are feeling insecure? What type of leader are you? Do you lead by example or are you the ‘do as I say but do not do as I do’ kind of leader?
Dearly beloved, ponder on these questions and ask God to help you this morning.
