TOPIC: Lessons From The Life Of Jonathan (VI) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 28 May 2023)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Job 6, Job 7, Job 8, John 17, John 18

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 20:4-17 (KJV)

4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.

5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.

6 If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

7 If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.

8 Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the Lord with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?

9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?

10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?

11 And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

12 And Jonathan said unto David, O Lord God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;

13 The Lord do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father.

14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the Lord, that I die not:

15 But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.

16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the Lord even require it at the hand of David’s enemies.

17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

MEMORY VERSE: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” – Proverbs 18:24

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES:

If you can’t be a pencil to write someone’s happiness, then try to be a nice eraser to remove their sadness.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP:

Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:

GOD SHALL PLANT THE JONATHAN-KIND OF FRIEND IN THE BOAT OF YOUR LIFE, IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:

Still on our study of the life of Jonathan, we want to glean yet another lesson today.

Jonathan was a true, loyal, reliable and dependable friend. He was a real friend who was there for David through thick and thin. The Bible says that Jonathan loved David as his own soul. What a friend! The types of Jonathan are rare, especially in our present age when genuine people that truly love others are scarce. This is an age when friends and relations backstab one another at the slightest provocation. “There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend stick closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24 NLT).

Beloved, what type of friend are you to others? Can you be trusted and relied upon? Can people find a confidant and strengthener in you when the chips are down? As much as you want people to be good to you, are you also good and kind to others? Can you be trusted to keep their secrets and not backstab them? Much as you want people to be loyal to you, how loyal are you to those who have invested themselves into you?

Another great lesson to learn from this saint is integrity. Jonathan was a man of his word. “The next morning, as agreed, Jonathan went out into the field……” (1 Samuel 20:35). He kept his promise as agreed; he was not a truce breaker. Can God trust you? Can men trust you? Can unbelievers vouch for you? If a character research is conducted about you in your work or business place today, what will be the response of co-workers about you? How many lives have smiled because you came on board? Or do people cry and cry because they met you? How cautious are you with your words to others? Will your spouse and children want to choose you over and over again? How is your relationship life? Are you always going everywhere with a long face? Ask yourself these pertinent and soul-searching questions and consider your ways.

A hymnist once wrote; “Sing a song, spread some cheer. There are sad and lonely people everywhere. Be a friend, show some love. It will lift them from the dungeons of despair.”

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

Lord Jesus, forgive me for not showing Your love to others, in the name of Jesus.

Father, let my life draw men to You, in the name of Jesus.

My character will not kick me out of destiny, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

Every unfriendly friend in the boat of my life, be exposed and be disgraced, in the name of Jesus.

Discerning spirit to know people for who they really are, come upon me, in the name of Jesus.

Joy of the Lord, fill my heart afresh, in the name of Jesus.

I shall not fail God, in the name of Jesus.
