MFM Devotional For Today 2023 MESSAGE:
Today, we want to explore yet another great lesson from the life of this awesome prince of Israel, Jonathan.
Confidence, good self-esteem and security were Jonathan’s enviable traits. He is one of the most secure characters recorded in the Bible. A broken man to the core, he was dead to the works of the flesh. He was never seen getting bitter against the success of his fellow brother. He was never seen in the company of rebels, scornful and haters. Rather, we read about him strengthening the hand of David, a fellow brother, encouraging him to be more successful. He was never threatened by the success of David. He was never envious of him nor saw David as a rival. Rather, he gave him a right hand of fellowship and was willing to support him to the top. A lot of us need to pray for the Jonathan-kind of heart.

We find the opposites of Jonathan in the lives of Miriam and Aaron (Numbers 12:1-2) and also Korah, Dathan and Abiram (Numbers 16:1-4). They all became envious of the success of Moses despite the fact that they too were men of renown and leaders of no mean reputation. They ganged up to pull down a successful man that had been helped by God, but God answered them by fire. They allowed bitterness and jealousy to push them to their early graves.
Envy and other works of the flesh as listed in Galatians 5:19-21 can destroy a man like cancer. It will always rob one of peace with oneself, others and God. Envious people never see any good thing in others. They always want to bad-mouth the success of others.
Beloved, what is the state of your heart when you hear that other people are thriving? Do you seek to pull them down or encourage them? Do you always want others to feel bad about themselves because you feel threatened by their success? If yes, then you need to visit the Cross once again and tell God to purify your heart and crucify your flesh (Romans 6:6, Galatians 2:20, 5:24). You need to ask God to break you down, remould you and fill you with the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
Lord, teach me to die to self, in the name of Jesus.
Father, purify my heart, in the name of Jesus.
Father, break me down and remould me, in the name of Jesus.
EVENING
Father, reveal every unbroken area of my life to me, in the name of Jesus.
I decree upon my life, sin shall not have dominion over me, in the name of Jesus.
Bitterness, envy and hatred in my heart towards anyone, be purged away by the precious blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
O God my Father, fill my heart with the fruit of the Spirit, in the name of Jesus.
